The two sisters

In Northseas The Early Folk Band sing ballads and songs of the sea, framed by traditional tunes from Scandinavia, Germany and the British Isles. The origins of these ballads and tunes are lost in the mists of time. Some were preserved in manuscripts and prints from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, while others survived in aural tradition and were collected by field researchers in the 19th and 20th centuries. 125 versions of the ballad TvÄ systrar survive in Swedish alone; other versions survive in English, Scots, Danish, Norwegian, Faroese, Icelandic and Estonian, carried by the sea.

The EARLY FOLK BAND combine authentic performance practice with the vitality of the folk traditions of their home countries, and present this timeless music for audiences of the 21st century.
